It's a Beautiful Day documentary

It's a Beautiful Day, documentary, 22 minutes, colour, English Subt, 2011

A beautiful day, is the day  when we can still think about the future of water. A beautiful day when we must choose.

Do we not need the water today. How long we're going to need water ? How long water may still be accessible to all ? It is difficult to answer this question. People of Earth are still dependent on water. Water is becoming a commodity for sale. The price is more expensive. Many people are very dependent of water.
Do we realize that the price of a liter of water will be more expensive than the fuel in the engine? Do we give notice that this land has been sold to investors, because it contains an abundant source of water? Then, what happens with the future of the water?

Four years ago, I met a contemporary wayang beber painter from Solo, Central Java - Dani Iswardana and Agung  Priyo Wibowo (arts networker-heritage lover). We turned out to have the same anxiety: the future of water! We do not have the desire, but just keeping the idea of water, which has not been able to respond in the form of work.

Dani already has a wayang beber painting entitled ‘Suluk Banyu’. His work has been done by the masterminds of some beber puppets master in various places and cultural events. also in some countries, however, I do not have anything that 'ammunition' to be able to respond to anxiety with it. Do I  make a documentary about water ? Am I going to make a documentary about wayang beber almost extinct and not popular ? Or do I make a movie of contemporary wayang beber painter who care about wayang beber and water issues? These ideas continue to interfere. Not easy to be realized. Because, I am also confused where to start from.

The issue of water, in my opinion, very sexy. This sexy issue. Earth's life-support full human problems. Then, if I do happen ? However, I was lucky because there were rendered as raw material written by Dani Iswardana wayang beber. His work is mentioned. Already have a Groove. Save drama which you can only feel everyone who reads

Over the last few years (exactly: 3 years), the idea of water, we forgot. Because, we have  have other activities. The idea of water, apparently forgotten, I thought. I also have not had enough courage to start more details of this research. Or sharpen knives analysis of water problems, from where will I peel angle. Of course, this is not a simple problem it seems. But in this period, when the question of water in various places, it seems as if the idea of fresh water film.

Two days of my shooting is encouraged to produce films Suluk Banyu / Beautiful Day. Where is the sponsor from? Would it not make a movie need funds, money that not a few? Is not this often-told by a documentary filmmaker? Does the filmmaker have to bet on a bad image because there is no proper lighting equipment?

For me, this documentary not a parade and exhibition of fine and beautiful pictures. But more on how to capture the event and handed over to the audience. Events in the documentary, is a dramaturgy which should be sought. Not on how the technical capability eventually make it into dramaturgy lost. Without fund donors and sponsors. There is no assistance from the sponsors. The film I did with the help of Dani Iswardana and  Sekar Jagad Arts Community have consciousness in the tradition of art: wayang beber-one of them. With Canon and Sony camera rental, I decided to record on water issues. With two cameras, I'm not sure. So, I asked FD. Sukhmana (photographer) as an additional camera for details of their details is happening.

I was lucky. This is a new experience. I tried to combine several elements in this film. Fine art, traditional performing arts. dramaturgy of puppets, and traditional music that I record with a camera-direct. Of course this is a challenging event, which must be conquered. Only the necessary speed and ability to respond to events. Because, I noted that the incident directly, exercise puppet stage. Mix, in the editing process is really fun. I like to play puzzle. A puzzle that must be answered. In other aspects, I asked  Agung Priyo Wibowo  to find data such as   whether the future of earth without water? What kind of prediction will it exist? Then, I combined. This process.

Dani Iswardana , wayang beber painters
Born in Surakarta, 20 April 1973. He has has known wayang beber since in Surakarta Art Instute. He does not paint wayang beber based on the Panji stories conventionally, but a freely personal interpreting such as taking inspiration of Mahabharata, ramayana, fable, legend and the nowadays living. Painting it for him is the flashback process of awareness of accepting and refusing the past tradition, a dialectic of space and time – an endless time to comprehend something by new perspective. Controversial world always make him seek and understand the transcendental. In 1995, he participated in wayang beber painting exhibition at Contemporary Museum of Nyuman Gunarsa, Yogyakarta.
